Anything else? I use mbox files and I don't plan on changing this (with my
mail volume, maildir is about 10x as slow when using mutt...)

them directly. Can we tell the gzip kioslave (or whatever it is) to
gunzip the file and then re-open (via Konqueror's file associations) the
uncompressed file, so that for the user, it opens transparently?

Have look in .xsession-errors in your $HOME. Does this file keep
growing? Perhaps there's a daemon running wild and spewing out error
messages (e.g. artsd or whatever).

t players (libavifile for example) use to extract the code from
the DLLs.
The original windows DLLs don't help. Get w32codec.zip from the mplayer
HQ (http://mplayer.sf.net).

I have this too, but only with _some_ apps (eg. konsole).

Install apt-zip if you are missing packages. apt-zip detects what files
are needed, creates a bash script which you can call on a different
computer an which will download all necessary packages, and install them
when back at the original computer.
