I'm running the most recent packages from unstable, and I've been having big
problems with Konqueror. About half the time when I log in, konqy won't load
- it just sits there . Sometimes, if I kill all konqy's, it will say
something about a bad version history, and still just sit there.

I've been using aviplay compiled from avifile. It's a QT-based app, and works
adequately for me. You should be able to get the avifile stuff from
avifile.sourceforge.net. It's easy to get

I've tried both .debs and CVS checkouts, and there's no difference. I don't
think it has anything to do with the video card, because I had this problem
with my G400 Max, and still have it with a GeForce2 MX.
I'm running the latest sid, but I've had this problem for more than a year.

Well, actually, you CAN get the Flash 5 plugin for linux, but you sort of
have to hunt around for it... :)

Cookbook is in the kdenonbeta CVS module.

This only happens for me if I'm using Mosfet's High Performance Liquid or
MegaGradient styles - it's something with the transparent menu code.
