maintenance entails a lot of tasks that don't involve reading or writing code.
Documentation, testing, and communication can be done by almost anyone. Those
are just examples.

instead of KWin and still get all the other parts of KDE SC 4, including
Plamsa and KRunner (though, you will probably need to tell your WM what key
should start KRunner).

I wouldn't consider it of RC-severity, so I think filing it on the Debian
BTS is a bit of a waste. If you decide to file it on the Debian BTS, please
take the additional time to mark it as "upstream" and "forwarded" to that
4.2.4 on openSUSE. My Debian KDE 4
installation is down (bad motherboard) right now.
I suggest trying KDE 4.2.4 (should be in Sid) and if the issue persists with
the new version reopening the bug you mentioned (529861).

Absolutely. It's not the maintainers' job to *fix* non-packaging bugs,
although user do appreciate it. It is the maintainers' job to communicate
the bugs to upstream and trac

Have you tried KAudioCreator? IIRC, it does allow the encoding options to be
specified in great detail. It's a very single-use program, but it's the
