KDE 4.4 and 4.5 handle plasma-netbook autostart differently. That patch is the
one you want for 4.4.

plasma-desktop.desktop, does exist (in the plasma-desktop package).
Presumably, this is why plasma-desktop will autostart, whereas plasma-netbook
