The most effective way would be to compile it. Then the kde3 stuff is in /usr/local or /opt or wherever you choose to put in but not in /usr. I am running Sid-installed kde4 and compiled kde3.5 with out a hitch. The appropriate startkde scripts set env variables and /etc/profile sets PATHs

How to keep KDE at 3.5 in Sid installations.

Hi, this has probably been discussed hundreds of times before, and everyone is tired of the arguments by now, but I thought I might be able to contribute something, for people who want to use Sid, but stay with KDE 3.5 My personal preference, is to run Debian Sid on my personal PCs, but not KDE 4.
