I confirm that I had the same problem with kprinter crashing and changing the
/etc/hosts file as described below fixed it.. weird

I had the same problem. I changed the first line of my hosts file to be
127.0.0.1 localhost
it used to be
127.0.0.1 localhost
for some reason this fixed it.
