The way I've been dealing with this for the modules I maintain is to use
hardcoded combinations of files and directories, e.g.:

I'm currently running Debian Unstable, with KDE 3.0.4, using the packages from
kde.org. For some reason, when I log out, I end up with a kdeinit process
still running, causing 100% CPU utilization. It's easy enough to kill -9
that process, but I'm wondering what's causing it to hang and eat my

I also use k3b quite happily as it seems to support everything I need is easy
to use and has not crashed on me yet ;-)

Hi,
I tried to compile bookcase and kbirthday but their compilations stopped
with the following errors:

This was probably a misconfiguration. I did an apt-get remove --purge
kde31rc2* and then reinstalled everything. Now there is no problem.

I am running KDE 3.1b2 and I have unknowingly configured my Taskbar so that
information has been lost.
No longer are all running applications displayed in the taskbar. I must click
on the Window List button if I wish to see all applications that are open in
a certain window view. The applicat
Hi,
Discussing the Debian-Desktop project, one remark was that Debian has a bad
support for language other than English.
Ideally, when a user type apt-get install kde, s(he) should get auto-magically
the right i-18n package for his or her language or gracefully fall bak to
English.

Thank you for your explanation.
I didn't know that k3b wants root privs only once (is that mentioned on
their website?). I just compiled it, started as user and it asked for root
password. I got angry and removed k3b immidiatly.
Recompiling now... By the way, when build will end, deb for KDE 3.

After this mornings update, ksmserver (KDE3.1 RC2) stopped working for anyone
other than the root user. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi,
I have 3 Problems on woody and kde 3.0.4:
1. I installed german I18n kde-i18n-de and could set german language for the
user. After a while german language is away. If I try to set german language
again there is no other language in kcontrol than english-US. Package

I use Xcdroast version 0.98alpha10 (the latest for the moment) and it has a

from sources, but it went well.
I never had problems with xcdroast even if it's an alpha version (never
