I have had this happen on my box too. During the same time, konqueror
lost it's mind and couldn't figure out how to open my file manager.
KDE help also died during this period. This was all on the 2.0.x
updates and I haven't had this happen on 2.0.1 yet.

Hello Ivan,
I figured you (and anyone else packaging KDE programs) may be interested
in this: a dh_make patch to allow custom debianizing templates, an
edited version of the kde debian dir (so dh_make's parameter
substitution does something useful).
What I did to dh_make... added a command line

because menu doesn't create it apparantly...the Debian menu within the
KDE menu is created soely by the menu paca
