Intended use of ${maven:CompileDepends}

What's the intended use of the ${maven:CompileDepends} substvar? It shouldn't be added to Depends nor Built-Using. The dpkg-gencontrol warning makes it very tempting to add it to Depends as some package in the archive have incorrectly done. I've resorted to stripping it from the generated sub
