jikes and dependencies with javac

Two queries: I just installed jikes. It doesn't work; it can't find any files in /usr/share/java/repository/lang (which doesn't exist; only the repository does). Question -- which package do I need to install to fix this, and why doesn't jikes depend on it? Second question: I'm using jdk1.1.7 and
