thanks for your comments, I will try to keep the maven part then. Since
I am unfamilar with maven one question remains:
* The package was getting its POM file through the get-orig-pom
target via:
wget -O debian/pom.xml
http://repository.sonatype.org/service/local/reposit

Btw. I would also like to track packaging within git instead of SVN
(rsyntaxtextarea is currently maintained within SVN). Since there is not
very much history, I would freshly start from git and leave a README
file in subversion, deleting all the other content.

currently the package rsyntaxtextarea is maintained by Vladimir Kotov
and Debian Java Maintainers. The package is in good shape but has not
seen any updates to a recent upstream version for two years. I
