OK.
I really think that the packaging methods we use are impairing the package
quality. I've examined the patches in several packages, and found p

No, packaging problems, #395167 being the most serious.

may I suggest taking a look at the xorg or linux-image packages?

Then it would have to go in non-free unfortunately. Can the bootstrap
compiler be built with gcj instead?

Hi,
I'm working on squashing some ugly bugs in tomcat5.5, and right now I've
just about had enough with the patch system. I have better things to do
with my time than regenerating patches and sorting out conflicts for every

Hi debian-java team,
I'd like us to write a common position statement about the jdk under
the gpl. I think these points should be mentioned:
o This is really a good thing for us because it is now really the GPL
(+Classpath exception), not a MPL like license;
o Sun worked hard to have the jdk in

Thanks for the answers. I would definitely recommend to create a
java5.0-compiler and java5.0-runtime package.

Hi
I agree with you in princible, but it depends on how responsive upstream
is and how bit the source tree is. Patches can be send to upstream
with both alternatives, so that is not a valid argument, i think. :)
I do not know how responsive tomcat is so this commend is on a general
level.

I don't know of this is linked from the openjdk site, but this

I believe this is a good idea. I have tried to get someone in the
debian-edu community to write a press release announcing our support
for this license change, but am not sure if anyone will pick up the
ball. I believe it is important to get the press to w
