and they all stated they run Redhat 6.1.

They were running 2 lines, but now need to expand. Problem is, we
can't locate a dual port serial card locally, and they're n

OK. I have a debian machine on a cable internet connection and I want to
ssh into it from the outside.
Currently can't do it. The Cable ISP blocks ALL ICMP traffic which
certainly doesn't help.

The first item of the rewrite command cannot include a hostname in it,
only the location on the host and name of the object they're asking for.
You need to use a RewriteCond clause before the RewriteRule to check
the host name.
