The irq is hooked to the serial port you are using. The IO port is as
well (try setserial /dev/modem or whatever you have your modem on -
/dev/modem is usualy a symlink...)
check 'modprobe -l' for a ppp module. if it's there, use 'insmod ppp' to
load it and then try again. If that doesn't work

Did you recompile the kernel yourself? If you did, remember to include PPP
in the Networking section (afai remember). Guessing from the newbiness,
thats not what you did ;-)
Anyway, most stock kernels DO include ppp by default thought. Try typing
"insmod ppp" and see what that brings up. Hop

bartnet. After I exited the pppconfig I tried
pon bartnet and it came up with this

i have a problem configuring my Linux (potato) box. I want to use the ADSL
connection I have. I have read several documents about this subject and
followed them. This is what I did:
- set up the network and I am able to ping the modem (10.0.0.138)
- downloaded, patched and installed pptp

I tried using PowerChute but it is not set up for Debian. If I remember
correctly, it makes some assumptions about the location and version of
certain libraries that works only with RedHat, Suse and a few other
releases. Same problem you had. I contacted APC and they will not
support under Debian.

well.
So the choice are the Linux "powerChute" bugware or the serial port.
