I've done it: I've reinstalled all the system from zero. I formated the
root and kept only the /home and /urs/local which are on separate
partitions. Changed only a little the default files to be able to run X
xserver-xtt-svga 3.3.2.3a-7 (the scripts didn't make the
/etc/X11/

Can I write vertically in Japanese with XEmacs and pLaTeX (LaTeX with
Japanese support) ? Can I mix vertical/horizontal contexts ? Is there
any other editor capable of this, if XEmacs is not able ? If XEmacs can
do this, then please explain me !

In order to be able to use the fontset and the capability to automatic
switch between Romaji/Japanese I have done these:
1. Added to my .bashrc and .bashrc_profile the line:
export LANG=ja_JP.ujis
2. added:
gtk_set_locale ();
