IIRC you are not the first one having this problem. Try to compile
GNU Mach yourself, with only the NIC driver you need enabled and see
wether that works.

I have problems running the hurd with NetGear LNE100TX. by idea, it
is supported by tulip module on linux, and it works well there. But
when I run hurd, it switches between 10baseT and 100baseTx regulary
