when I typed 'dpkg-reconfigure locales ' to generate some locales
end up with 'UTF-8' and 'GB18030' these big charmaps, the computer
took long time (more than 6 hours,still haven't finished) to generate,
and seemed endless.Compared with above,other charmaps lik

I came across a bug report on the glibc-bug mailing list, and decided
to test the example code in Debian/Unstable. IT seem to fail there
too, so I guess the problem isn't fixed in glibc yet.

I applied the patch to the latest glibc source and was able to build a
package. I have it installed and it works much better. Yesterday I was
having trouble installing mozilla extensions because my home directory
is on an older IRIX NFS server. Today, with the patches libc6 package,
it works.
