in a scripting language go? (That one is
my pet question: FHS seems to point to /usr/share/, while in Debian,
most languages use /usr/lib/, and I have arguments against both :)
Ruby-specific question is, of course, how do we deal with Ruby 1.8
transition?

I think that since whytheluckystiff is developing Syck/YAML right in the
Ruby CVS, there is little chance for a separation of libyaml
t libcurses-ruby what you are looking for? Did you try apt-search?

How about just going with Ruby 1.8?
$ ruby1.8 -rrbconfig -e 'puts Config::CONFIG["LIBRUBYARG_SHARED"]'
-lruby1.8
By the time you fix it for 1.6, ruby-defaults will be
l-ruby1.6 binary package is built from libyaml-ruby
source package.
All three packages mentioned above have versioned depends on ruby >=
1.8.x and non-versioned depends on libyaml-ruby, apparently, they don't
need libyaml-ruby1.6.
I'm requesting removal of libyaml-ruby from unstable.

That is not a good reason to keep it that way. If we come up with
tag-based package classification scheme, we can provide support for it
in Debian menu system.

As for quality of X Type1 rasterizer, I believe that it is a temporary
problem. At least one Type1 renderer, gv, has no problems with visual
quality, so this is not a fundamental flaw, just another challenge.

Sounds like your interests are relevant for the Debian Science team [2]
(which is marked dead) and Debian Science Maintainers team [3], getting
in touch with them would be a good place to start.
