MGT is much more capable than gnome-terminal, I prefer the power of MGT
over gnome-terminal, and if no-one else will step in, I'd be willing to
maintain MGT myself.
I wouldn't think that any GNOME 1 program is obsolete. In this case MGT
provides useful functionality and the fact that it's based on
I know I've tried to keep packages in Subversion but the time stamps are
not updated on export which caused problems with autoconf scripts for
me.
This bug is not expected to be solved for version 1.0 so I abandoned the
idea for now.

There was an RFP for pfaedit (99904), which I've changed a few days ago to
an ITP and prepared a package already. However I'm going to be without net
connection for some (short) time now and the package still needs to be
tested.
I will upload it in two or three weeks (or sooner).
