Just a recording of a failed attempt to figure out what is wrong.
The problem seems to be with an internal SQL::Abstract method that is
used by Class::DBI::Sweet (_recurse_where), which is reworked in the
2.0 release, so a two-level join isn't handled.

On a side note, upstream site of prelude says[1] that prelude-nids is
deprecated and users should switch to snort. Given this, and the severe
build failure, maybe it is not such a bad idea to remove prelude-nids
from archive?
