It's iproute 20110315-1, which is the same as yours. Oh, damn, I just
figured it out, and I have egg of my face:
$ which ip
/usr/local/sbin/ip
# ls -l /usr/local/sbin/ip
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 88488 Dec 27 2003 /usr/local/sbin/ip
So I must have installed it by hand 7 years ago and never noticed

I cannot reproduce the error with /bin/ip from iproute 20110315-1.
I tried
ip -4 addr del 192.168.101.18/255.255.255.0 dev eth0 label eth0:1
on the command line and it worked flawlessly.
What version of iproute do you have installed?
