Package: libquicktime
Version: unavailable; reported 2003-08-17
Severity: wishlist
The automake1.5 package is buggy and unsupported. I would very much
like to remove it from the archive. Unfortunately, your package still
has a strict build dependency on automake1.5. I need those
dependencies changed before automake1.5 can be removed from the
archive.
IMHO packages shouldn't build depend on any automake packages. They
should just run automake on the unpacked source tree, and then ship
the changed Makefile.in's in the diff.gz. This makes the build more
predictable, and of course means this sort of automake version problem
can't happen again.
Of course, if you feel that you do need to run automake at build time,
the transition to automake1.7 should generally be pretty
painless. Many Makefile.am will just work out of the box. If you have
any problems, feel free to contact me.
Once automake1.5 is removed from the archive, this bug will be
upgraded to serious severity.
