I was experiencing exactly the same behavior as detailed in bug #369828, but
since the very last update of inkscape the
behavior has changed... now I get the following:
$ inkscape
Emergency save activated!
Emergency save complete
Thanks for the patch! Contacted upstream who will fix the bug in the
next release... in the meantime I've uploaded a new version that applies
this patch!
