Yes, It happend to me also and also I'm try with uninstall with purge
and re-install.
I'm not using LDAP and the solution provided by Bryan Bayerdorffer works
with consist on *drop* all ldap_2 preferences.

Just for notice that when the php4 mod is enabled no file download can be
made, you can navigate using autoindex but in the time you want to download
any file (like a gif file in autoindex) apache says in
/var/log/apache/error.log:
