1.7.4 error disappeared once libept0 was upgraded to 0.5.16, so it seems
debtags has incorrect dependency information (libept0 (>= 0.5.15))

That's certainly very strange. Do you happen to have /usr mounted

Thank you for the full debugging trace . It looks like there is a
problem with a file:
#1 0x0804a330 in addline (buf=0xb3c0 "Couldn't find color

in RGB database /usr/share/xwatch/rgb.txt", colindex=0)
could you sent /usr/share/xwatch/rgb.txt ?
Can you confirm that the DISPLAY varialbe is set appropriately?
Thanks for the backtrace. Could you do the same with a local build
(preferably with debugging enabled (gcc -g). You can just:
cd /tmp/;
apt-get -b source xwatch;
cd xwatch-2.11;
gdb ./xwatch
Are you running xwatch from outside of
X (this would explain the crash, and make the bug not RC. Then, the
bug is simply "xwatch doesn't check the return value of some
preliminary X function")?
Justin
I am running xwatch from a Konsole session within X.

Could you send a backtrace ? There is a small howto at :
http://wiki.debian.net/?HowToGetABacktrace
though if you don't feel like doing it all :
$ gdb xwatch
gdb) r /var/log/mail.info
...
gdb) bt full
would already help quite a bit.
Also :
$ strace -f -o xwatch.trace

Program segfaults when I try to run it. eg:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xwatch /var/log/mail.info
Segmentation fault
