The problem is gone after a reboot into jessie.
This is good, but that doesn't really solve the upgrade issue.

I've contacted upstream regarding the issue in MIPS [0].
Dmitry V. Levin sent me the attached [1] patch [2]
to handle the error.
I'm currently giving it a bit of testing, but my MIPS setup is qemu
based and pretty slow right now.
