this seems to be the same bug as this one in ubuntu:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/stellarium/+bug/426417 . The solution in
comment #35 (installing driconf and disabling texture tiling) worked for
me on my ubuntu system.

dm_mod && /usr/share/..." and the use of su-to-root:
