I stopped updating the domain server, beacuse in production I couldn't
afford any further breakage.
I can confirm, that by 95% probability, the bug is caused by the samba
or related libraries on the domain server. We have two other samba file
server

At row 91 of /etc/init.d/squid, there is command
$DAEMON -z
for creating cache spool directory.
However, there should be
$DAEMON $SQUID_ARGS -z
instead.
I have created tandem (dual-squid) configuration where first squid
manages security tests and the second man

Similar with mpeg2video, h264 etc. These worked well with etch. A quick
glance has shown that there has been similar problem

Well, I'm really a lame when it goes into a compilation, and I only once
successfully rebuilded a package...
I failed even the first step (shouldn't they be swapped?) I get "Couldn't
find a source package for ffmpeg-debian"
Then, I don't have the package ffmpeg-debian in repository.

Hm, I have tested with nVidia TNT2 32M, and the result is very similar. It
may not be fault of ATI driver. However, tested with Ubuntu 8.10, installed
the recommended Adobe Flash Plugin 10, it works fine. Could it possibly be
an issue of some plugin?

clamav-daemon too.
The clamd and spamd are running, however the Amavisd-new reports
ANTI-VIRUS code NOT load

to detect Broadcom network adapter, that Etch has had no problem with. I
have several machines like this HP BL465, and Debian is anticipated to
run on them, so please, fix the det

the partition of course resides on /dev/sda1, not on /dev/sda! So I
don't wonder it fails.

Upgrading clamav together with all libraries to 0.92.1 from volatile
resolves the problem and startup takes seconds.

During 8+ years of contact with reporting systems, I have learned that
excesive log/config postings are seldom invited for first glance.
Maintainer usually asks for the very piece of information he needs.
Moreover, the bug could already be known some
ordinary fileserver in Samba domain. When
trying on machine that is both file and domain server (has
security=user), everything works OK.
