The "Extended Preferences" plugin offers the option "Hide buddy list at
signon". This option has solved the problem for me.
Placement of the window can be handled by a good window manager.

I had a problem with ejecting CDs and DVDs which seems to match
Eleknader's problem. (could eject as root but not as non-root
user)
I found out that everything works fine if I don't set up a
pkt-device for my cd/dvd drive.
Try the following (as root):
/etc/init.d/udftools stop
#uncommen

In sh-mode with font-lock mode double-quoted strings inside a
double-quoted command-substitution is treated as normal text (without
quotes)
To reproduce:

lomoco onyl works with USB mice connected via USB, but appearently it
does not support USB mice connected via PS/2. I use PS/2 to save costs
on cables and I would like to use lomoco too.
