Hi,
I don't have access to the buggy system anymore. On a new jessie install
the problem doesn't show up. This problem might still be an issue for
wheezy to jessie migration.

hibremation/resume working.
I also tested 3.2.0-rc4 from experimetal (with modesetting enabled) and
experience the same kind of problems that with 3.1.0. Sometimes
processes segfault, sometimes the whole kernel hangs.

I think that this bug must be solve before wheezy release. It basically
prevents a normal user from booting a newly installed encrypted system
with non-english keyboard layout.
My tests shows that the patch proposed by Andreas Altergott works on a
freshed install wheezy.

I can confirm this bug. It happened on 3 upgrades of desktop systems from lenny
to squeeze.
This bug dosen't breaks anything, but the sysv-rc debconf failed
migration message suggests that the user should fix something and *then*
reconfigure sysv-rc, but

Steps to reproduce this bug on thinkpad X32 (Radeon Mobility M6 LY)
under squeeze, KMS disabled (as it breakes hibernation, see #583120):
* log in as user1 in GDM
* without closing user1's session, login as user2 using GNOM
