when I reported this problem I was using upstart instead of the sysvinit
package. Meanwhile, I have changed back to sysvinit (using debian only on
laptops with few services) and dismissed upstart. Now the boot problems with a
hanging startpar are gone.

/run/man instead of /var/cache/man, i.e., keeping the whole man page cache in
RAM. On my (personal use) systems the size of /var/cache/man is below 3 MB.

also for the new firefox version in sid (46.0-1) the scrollbars are unusable.
Going back to version 3.18.9-1 of the libgtk-3 packages makes the scrollbars
work again.
