I can confirm this behaviour.
I'm using Sid on powerpc with 2.6.17 and libc 2.3.6.ds1-4,
downgrading firefox to 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.6-3 solve the problem for now...
This bug is at least important since firefox is not usable anymore.

the compiz metapackage actually depends only on compiz-gnome but it
should depends on something like "compiz-gnome|compiz-kde" because now
it brings a lot of gnome packages that aren't really needed.
