understand that you are frustrated about this.
Have you considered asking the debian-devel mailinglist if this package should
go into main or contrib?

I am running 2.6.29.2 (from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.29.2/) since Saturday (about 3 days) now without any crashes
or freezes.
So 2.6.29.2 seems to fix the problem for me.
Several people report that the mainline kernel versions 2.6.29.1 to 2.6.29.4
fix the problem, but

I am now able to state more precisely the problem and in which cases it

Jonas Diemer posted a python-script [1] on the Ubuntu-Bug-Tracker which
reproduces ONE of the bugs, causing a freeze.
The script does NOT reproduce the bug for kernel versions 2.6.29 and 2.6.31-
