OK, it turns out I did not correct install Cantor after compiling it
(incorrect installation prefix). However, I've now fixed that

i tested PyCharm and it is indeed a charm, and would be highly valuable as
a package in debian
quite sure it's based in eclipse with pydev, but we get a fully functional
python programming environment, with modern interactive debugging, nice
