I would suggest to use the following regexp : "^[a-z][-a-z0-9_.]*$",
since the default behaviour (when NAME_REGEXP is commented out), does
not allow a trailing $.

gnome-terminal like 3.4.1.1-2 or 3.10.1-1 ?

Current version on testing is also affected.
I hit this bug after upgrading a machine. After rebooting it I was unable to
login again.

The problem can be closed: I'm running f-irc now fine in gnome terminal
3.10.1-1.
