The original problem reported by this bug is partially fixed; the lshw-gtk
package installs a .desktop file that launches "su-to-root -X -c lshw-gtk".
However, there are still two problems:
1. su-to-root is contained in the menu package, which is not a dependency
of lshw-gtk. Because menu does not

Hi David!
Can we upload this to sid instead? :)
I'm perfectly happy to upload to experimental for your perusal of
course.
Also, would you be okay with using git to manage the packaging

This is from the full system backup that ran just before the upgrade:

I'd find the following to be useful.
Currently, when pressing f, the whole tree of all new packages is forgotten.

Hi,
I've done a little more digging and have some more information:
TLDR: Root cause appears to be mounting /tmp noexec, and the
original patch for bug #638068.
The source of the problem seems to be
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/klibc.
The older version of initramfs-tools had this snippet:

Hi.
I was taking a look at transcode's debian/rules file and it contains the
options --disable-see and --disable-sse2 unconditionally.
Given that all amd64 CPUs are required to implement these instruction sets

Hi.
aptitude/apt already provide a way to show packages which are no longer
depended (or suggested/recommended/etc) upon (AND automatically remove
them).
This is however not really informative or fine grained.

Thanks for the update.
I have been looking for the powerpc64 version of the 3.8 kernel to try, but it
doesn’t seem to be available as a Debian package yet.

Hi.
This idea has in kinda the same motivation as what I've suggested in bug
#707322.
AFAIU there are alternative dependencies like (sorry the example isn't perfect,
but I was too lazy in searching for a better on):
rkhunte
Package: libtasn1-6
This package is needed by gnutls, so it is a so basic package, while
it depends on so
high level packages ,especially gtk-doc-tools, and texlive-latex-base.
It is a blocker of auto bootstrap Debian.
To avoid this problem, you may need to have an extra -doc package.
