I'm the maintainer of the httpclient bit of Mercurial. I've posted a patch on http://mercurial.selenic.com/bts/issue2932, but I'm not going to submit it for inclusion in Mercurial until I can get some testing. I don't have access to a machine in such a configuration to make sure things work. -
