I had the same symptom: teeworlds crashes, often with some kind of
X error message but not always the same one.
I found that preventing gnome-screensaver from activating solved
the problem. Yes I'm sending keyboard and mouse input but I guess
teeworlds intercepts all input before the screensaver

by root:root instead of root:chipcard. Just

According to (what I understand of) Pida's Emacs Support page[0], the
necessary patches for Emacs have been adopted upstream (and have been
released as of Emacs 22.3), though this version hasn't yet percolated
into Debian.
You could always submit a bug to the Emacs team and ask them to
package 22.

I'm writing this email in Pida with Emacs.
0. Install pida as normal to satisfy all the run-time dependencies.
