This is a known problem, fixed in sid. I think the reason is the "set -e" near
the top of /etc/init.d/tomcat5.5. You can try removing that line as a
workaround.

the user's shell before calling cdebootstrap everything works fine. i
suppose then cdebootstrap ought to just arbitrarily append those directories
regardless of the current value

It is indeed that squid seems to depend on epoll(). It would be nice if
squid checks if epoll() is really available before silently assuming it
is. If it is not, the old behaviour should be used instead of failing.
