I have a Dual AMD Athlon 1800+ (MP) and running the commands above
wouldn't crash atd.
I also vote to downgrade the severity to important, the bug causes not a
unusable package.

Well, after replacing the CD-ROM drive for the third
time, the problem no longer occurs.
The weird thing is that I did try with two different
CD-ROM drives and three different CD.
Anyway, it's solved :)

thanks for the hint, but i feel not very sure how to add this. I feel
that it might break with <2.6.11 kernels. Do you reckon your patch runs
fine with those older versions, or could you come up with a patch to
support both of which?
