I now have a seconde report of that problem, although with another window
manager: wmi.
I am getting the feeling that the problem is Gnome-WM / Non-Gnome-WM
related.
Could you run a Gnome WM (for example metacity) in an Xnest Window and test
revelation there?

I've got the same problem, but when my machine hangs, I cannot even
ping it. It dies. It happens randomly, and only with some modes, for
example the matrix mode. I know it's an xlockmore issue because my
machine NEVER hangs, only when I leave it alone locked with the matrix.

The problem is that on Debian, there is no 'gcj' binary.
