Works for me as expected, a colon is added. (Using current upstream bash-completion master on Fedora 25, but IIRC this is the way it has been for ages and shouldn't be distro dependent.)

Package: bash-completion Version: 1:2.1-4.3 Severity: wishlist Hi. When completing hostnames for scp, it makes sense IMO, that a colon would be added automatically after the completed hostname, since *if* it's actually taken as a hostname (which is implied by the completion to it) and not a file
