I have encountered this same issue when trying to encode a DVD and
include the closed captions. I verified that the patch in this bug
report fixes the problem for me. Any chance we could get someone to
look at this bug, as it's over a year old now?

So I played with this some more and came up with this patch. It fixes
the issue for me.
