since this bug still exists (even in 3.7.2) and is very annoying:
1. Solution/Patch:
remove "inode/directory" fomr MimeType in audacious.desktop
Patch attached.

This annoying bug still persist in 2015 and Debian 8 Jessie.
I tried everything that I could but Audacious persist putting itself as main
app for directories.
Does anyone knows how exactly this could be stopped beside using different
play
I suspect that it is caused by MimeType definition in
/usr/share/applications/audacious.desktop:

Dear Maintainer,
Whenever I try to open a folder, Audacious opens instead of my folder handler.
I even found the source of the problem: Audacious.desktop is the first entry in
my /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache, before my folder handler
