I think I've found not the root of the problem but an indication of where it lies. (in case you don't want to read through the thread, I'm running debian testing on amd64) After upgrading, libjson.so.0 points to libjson-c.so.2. libjson.so.0 is not found, although there is a file by that name in /l

Debian reported that I had updates available. They were the libraries I'd downgraded. I updated them so I could dig around and figure out what was broken. My friend had taken a look and he did `ldd /usr/bin/gnome-shell` and noticed that libjson.so.0 was not found. The file was there, but it wasn't
