The remote Debian hosts are clones. After rebuilding
/var/lib/dbus/machine-id on each host the problem seems
to be gone.
This bug report can be closed.

machines in parallel (Squeeze and openSUSE 11.3). My desktop

Problem: For the _second_ Debian host (and all following
Debian hosts) I get an error message like
