I noticed that the option is still not documented in resolv.conf(5).
A patch for the man page has been signed-off at the linux-man mailing list
but somehow was not included in the upstream man page. We should include it
into our manpage in the meantime nevertheless:

The libc in Squeeze has a changed stub resolver behaviour which
attempts to do IPv4 and IPv6 lookups in parallel; unfortunately this
breaks in the presence of some firewalls/routers.
