I wanted only SDL_mixer.pc file, but ended with reviewing all the
patches and trying to help with the update (in hope that it won't be
for void :P).

In regards to 1 - no, I have not actually inspected the patches that
were dropped. My experience with 1.2.11 though has been fairly stable -
i.e I have not encountered any bugs (yet). If you could provide all the
patches, I'd be willing to look them over to see what may still need to
be included.
At any rate, I have a PPA version of SDL-mixer 1.2.11 available here:
https://launchpad.net/~tigerfishdaisy/+archive/ppa-fish. I realize that
it depends on some packages within the PPA itself that may not be
wanted, but I can provide a set of SDL-mixer 1.2.11 sources that are

SDL-mixer 1.2.8 is around 3 years old now and has been replaced by
1.2.11. There have been many changes since and significant API upgrades
and bugfixes.
