The attached patch solves the problem for me:
The following line in /var/log/daemon.log
Mar 10 20:30:04 wirt4 smartd[2805]: Device: /dev/sdc, Temperature changed
+3 Celsius to 27 Celsius (Min/Max 24/27!)
gets transmogrified into:
- Smartd Begin
