It seems that kismet has updated their gpsd support around beginning of 2010.
Could you please check if the latest ( 2013.03.R1b-1 ) package fixes
this problem?

the inevitable has happened - kismet is not usable with current
gpsd - I'd consider this bug severity grave as core functionality of
kismet it not usable anymore, and definitly release criticial.

gpsd will soon drop the support for the old protocol, which is not able
to support more new features and functions. Kismet is still relying
on the old protocol - and it is *not* using libgps. So your upstream
